SOME SPOILERS!
Normally, Rush Sykes wasn't one to listen into his little sister's conversations, but he made an exception this time. As he stood behind a pillar, leaning against it, he listened to every word that was being said, not really happy with what was taking place.
His little sister, Irina Sykes, had made a good and quick friend of David Nassau, the Marquis of Athlum (or Dave, as Rush liked to call him...-sweatdrop-...)
But Rush didn't like that...
He didn't know what it was, but he didn't want his little sister to be so close to David. Don't get Rush wrong, he completely loved his little sister, but this was something he didn't want Irina to get involved with.
Maybe it was because he was protective of her?
But no, there's no need for that. David was a really great guy who would never take advantage of a girl like Irina. Or anyone, for that matter...
Either way, couldn't Irina go find herself another man (that Rush would approve of!) and, kind of, leave David alone.
"You know, you are one of the reasons that this was even possible."
Rush's stomach felt like it dropped when he heard David say that sentence. No, the sentence wasn't directed at him. It was directed at his little sister, Irina. He growled slightly in anger. Why didn't he receive compliments from Dave like that?
....
....
What kind of impression was he sending here?
Rush cocked his head to the side, questioning his thoughts.
Yeah, what kind of impression would he be sending?
That he was jealous?
Rush felt his cheeks burn a little bit. Nope! Nope! He wasn't jealous of Irina! He was just protective of her! He just wanted Dave to compliment and... spend more time with him? No! No! No! Bad thoughts! Bad thoughts!
Rush shook his head continually, damning himself for thinking in such a way!
Dave was just a friend. A good friend. A good looking friend, with beautiful blue eyes, which held so much curiousity, innocence and awareness, beautiful, golden blonde hair and a thin, lithe and tall body.... Which all happened to belong to a man!
Rush gave himself a mental kick.
"Were you eavesdropping?"
Rush's heart missed a beat as he jumped away from the pillar and turned to face the person that had noticed him.
David stood at the side of the pillar with an amused look on his face as he regarded Rush, whose heart was still beating fast and stomach was turning. He didn't seem to be aware of either of these things. He took a few steps towards Rush, stopping a few steps away as he said, "Irina's a lot more mature than you treat her."
Rush's heart regained its steady pace. He straightened up a little as he glanced at the floor. He didn't have anything to say, but the butterflies were back inside his stomach. Butterflies that managed to flutter freely everytime David was around him.
David regarded Rush with an expressionless face.
The silence was deafening as Rush struggled to find something coherent to say.
Anything!
David chuckled, "I don't recall you being so quiet and unsure of what to say. It's quite funny..."
Rush pouted a little as he raised his head to look at David.
David averted his eyes, unsurely, but Rush noticed a glint of something inside his beautiful, deep, blue eyes. "Is something wrong?" David asked, eyes making contact with Rush's.
Rush scratched the back of his head, wishing that his normal and carefree attitude would just come back and he could act like nothing was wrong. Instead, he shook his head, closing his eyes.
David sighed.
Rush waited for a moment, hoping that David would take his leave now.
But instead, David stated, "Jealousy isn't pretty, you know, Rush..."
Rush's eyes snapped open and he looked at David, who had a smile on his face, with wide eyes. "I-I'm- Why would I be jealous?" Rush stammered.
David blinked, "Irina had told me that she believed you were.... interested... in me."
Rush sighed. Could his little sister really read him that well? Maybe girls really were smart whenever it came to things like relationships. Maybe it was a girls common sense? Why was it so easy for girls to see the chemistry between two people?
"Well?" David asked.
Rush grinned before taking a few steps forward, until he was close to David. He leaned forward slowly and uncertainly before his lips came into contact with David's.
David's lips were so soft...
And Rush wanted to savour the feeling forever.
The kiss didn't last long.
Rush pulled back a moment later, opening his eyes and looking at David, who had a small smile on his face.
Rush grinned, then proclaimed, "I wasn't jealous!"</lj-cut>
